On Thursday morning Real Madrid announced an agreement between the club and point guard Sergio Rodriguez to extend the contract between both parties for four more seasons, until the end of the 2017-18 campaign. Rodriguez (1.89 meters, 26 years old) is one of the main pillars on which the current Real Madrid has been built during these last years. This season he is averaging 13.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals in 11 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games to lead his team to its better season start ever. He arrived to Real Madrid during the 2010-11 season and this is his fourth campaign in white. 'El Chacho', as he is commonly known in Spain, started his career in Estudiantes of Madrid and his sheer talent was noticed by everyone, including national team coach Pepu Hernandez, who gave him a spot in the team who won the 2006 World Championship in Japan. Sincethen, he has been a staple at the national team, winning several medals. He was drafted in 2006 and moved to the NBA that year to Portland Trail Blazers. He spent a few seasons there also playing for the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks, but decided to come back to Europe to join the new Real Madrid project. Last season, he led the team to its first Euroleague title game since 1995, falling to double champ Olympiacos Piraeus. This season Real Madrid is still undefeated both in Euroleague and the Spanish League.
