Turkish Airlines Euroleague hopeful Strasbourg fortified its frontline with the signing of big man Matt Howard on Monday. Strasbourg will compete in the qualifying rounds hoping to win three games and advance to European basketball’s highest level competition for the second season in a row. Howard (2.03 meters, 25 years old) arrives from ratiopharm Ulm, for whom he averaged 8.8 points on 57.9% two-point shooting plus 5.3 rebounds in 16 Eurocup games in a reserve role. Howard was worth 9.6 points and 5.1 rebounds in the German League. The power forward boasts some limited Euroleague experience from time spent with Olympiacos Piraeus at the start of the 2011-12 season. Howard finished that season in Germany with EnBW Ludwigsburg. Strasbourg will be his second stay in France after playing the 2012-13 campaign with Chorale Roanne. Howard first made a name for himself as a standout player for Butler University, which he led to a pair of NCAA Final Fours, was a three-time Horizon League First Team selection, the 2009 Horizon League Player of the Year and the 2011 Lou Henson Award winner.
