Turkish Airlines Euroleague newcomer Neptunas Klaipeda showed its loyalty on Tuesday by signing team captain Martynas Mazeika to a new contract that will allows them to debut together in Europe's top competition together. Mazeika (1.91 meters, 29 years old) grew up and played his first four pro seasons with Neptunas. He returned for a single season in 2008-10 then came back to play the last four, as well, from 2010 until now, in his hometown. He has been a double-digit scorer in seven of those seasons with Neptunas, every one since age 17. Last season, he was the team's top sccorer in 10 Eurocup games with 14.1 points on average to go with 2.8 assists and 2.7 rebounds. When not playing with Klaipeda, Mazeika has toured Europe with Alba Berlin, where he played two seasons and averaged 4.2 points in 12 Eurocup games; Capo d'Orlando of Italy, VEF Riga of Latvia and AEK Athens of Greece.
"My one dream was to test the strength of the Old Continent's most prestigious basketball tournaments, the Euroleague," Mazeika said upon re-signing. "Finally, it will come true."
