Laboral Kutxa Vitoria replaced one Italian head coach with another, hiring Marco Crespi to take charge of the team in place of Sergio Scarioli. The club announced both moves on Thursday. Crespi, 52, arrives from Montepaschi Siena, which he led to the Italian League finals last season. It was his first season as a Euroleague head coach in nearly a decade; He coached Scavolini Pesaro in the 2004-05 season. Crespi had spent the previous season as Siena’s top assistant before earning a promotion to the top spot. Laboral will be the second coaching stop outside his native Italy for Crespi, who also coached Casale Monferrato, Olimpia Milano and Biella in Italy and Caja San Fernando in Spain. Scariolo, 53, led Laboral to the Euroleague Top 16 and the Spanish League playoffs last season. It was his second term as head coach in Vitoria. He first joined the club before the start of the 1997-98 season, led the club to the Spanish League finals in 1998 and won the Copa del Rey in 1999.
