Anadolu Efes Istanbul will likely have to reach the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 without one of its top young talents after forward Birkan Batuk suffered an injury while playing for the Turkish national team over the weekend. Batuk (1.96 meters, 24 years old) ruptured his right Achilles tendon during a friendly game between Turkey and Belgium on Friday. He was flown overnight from Brussels to Istanbul and underwent surgery to repair the injury the next day. The national team doctor who operated on Batuk said surgery was successful, but that the player would miss five to six months of action, putting him out of the FIBA World Cup and the early months of both the Euroleague and the Turkish League. After he made his Euroleague debut with two appearances for Efes in the 2012-13 season, Batuk developed into a part-time starter last season, his second in the competition. He started five of the 19 games he played, averaging 4.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and 18 minutes per game.
