A familiar face is back to Anadolu Efes Istanbul, none other than sharpshooter Cenk Akyol, who signed a deal with the Turkish powerhouse on Monday. Akyol (1.97 meters, 27 years old) arrives from Galatasaray Liv Hospital Istanbul, where he averaged 5 points on 45.3% three-point shooting and 83.3% free throw accuracy in 20 Turkish Airlines Euroleague games last season. He had grown up in the Efes junior system and debuted in the Euroleague for the club at age 17, back in the 2004-05 season. He played the next four years with Efes, too, although in late 2007 he left the club to finish the 2007-08 season with Galatasaray. After a year with Air Avellino of Italy, Akyol returned to Efes to play two more seasons before joining Galatasaray in summer 2012. As such, this will be Akyol's third stint with Efes, to which he helped win three Turkish League and three Turkish Cup titles, as well as reaching the Euroleague playoffs in 2005 and 2006. He also lifted the Turkish League trophy with Galatasaray in 2013, reaching the Euroleague playoffs last season. Akyol has been a member of the Turkish national team, helping it reach the 2010 FIBA World Championships title game. Akyol has led Turkey to win four other silver medals in youth competitions - at the U16 European Championshp in 2003, the U18 European Championships in 2004 and 2005 and the U20 European Championships in 2006.
