Turkish Airlines Euroleague runner-up Real Madrid acquired more skill for its frontcourt with the signing of center Gustavo Ayon, who just completed an excellent appearance at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Ayon (2.06 meters, 29 years old) averaged 17.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1 block for Mexico, which he helped reach the Round of 16. There he totaled 25 points and 8 rebounds in a loss to Team USA. Ayon, who played two seasons in Spain earlier in his career, has spent the past three seasons with four different clubs in the NBA. He averaged 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 26 games in an injury-shortened campaign with Atlanta last season. Ayon also played for New Orleans, Orlando and Milwaukee during his NBA career. He began his career in his native Mexico with Halcones de Xalapa and later played for Fuenlabrada and Tenerife in Spain.
