Unicaja Malaga signed shooting guard Jon Stefansson for the coming season, the club announced Sunday. Stefansson (1.92 meters, 32 years old) is a veteran of Spanish and European basketball who has spent the previous four seasons playing in Spain. The native of Iceland averaged 7.8 points on 40.2% three-point shooting in 27 Spanish League games and 6.2 points on 45.2% three-point shooting in 14 Eurocup games for CAI Zaragoza last season. With Unicaja Stefansson will return to the Euroleague for the first time since the 2007-08 season, when he averaged 10 points in 15 games for Lottomatica Roma. He began his career with KR Reykjavik in Iceland and has since played for TBB Trier in Germany, Dynamo St. Petersburg in Russia, Roma, Napoli and Benetton Basket Treviso in Italy and Valencia, Granada and CAI Zaragoza in Spain. Stefansson won the FIBA EuroCup with St. Petersburg in 2005 and the Italian Cup with Napoli in 2006.
