Panathinaikos adds veteran shooter Pavlovic

Panathinaikos Athens has signed veteran scorer Sasha Pavlovic, who has spent the past season and a half with Partizan NIS Belgrade. The sides agreed on a contract for one season. Pavlovic (2.01 meters, 32 years old) becomes the team’s first addition since the hiring of Sasha Djordjevic as head coach. Pavlovic missed the start of last season and only appeared in two Eurocup games after his return, but averaged 11.9 points in 19 Adriatic League games for the club. He has Euroleague experience in the form of parts of two season with Buducnost Podgorica and the 2013-14 campaign with Partizan. In between Pavlovic spent 10 seasons with seven different clubs in the NBA, where he played 567 regular season games, 142 as starter, and 52 playoffs games. He reached the 2007 NBA finals with Cleveland and also suited up for Utah, Minnesota, Boston, New Orleans, Dallas and Portland.

"I am looking forward to come to Athens and play for Panathinaikos," Pavlovic said. "When Coach Djordjevic called me, I didn’t think it twice! We agreed from the first time we talked, it was an easy decision. I am very happy because I will play for a giant team, with great history, big players and also because I will play for Coach Djordjevic. He was a great player and he is a great coach. Also I am happy because Panathinaikos has great fans, they create a great atmosphere in every game. They are like the fans of Partizan, they love their team. I will do everything not to disappoint them. I know very well that next season I will play for a team that gives me the opportunity to fight for the Euroleague. That’s why I am so happy now."
