A reigning Turkish Airlines Euroleague champion is joining a competition newcomer following the announcement that Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul has signed big man Marcus Slaughter for the next two seasons. Slaughter (2.04 meters, 30 years old) arrives from Real Madrid, where he spent three seasons as a defensive specialist and a fan favorite for his skill at finishing alley-oop dunks. He won the Euroleague title in May with Madrid while collecting 2 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 16 minutes off the bench in the championship game against Olympiacos Piraeus. True to his defensive reputation, Slaughter has the highest per-minute steal rate of any player who appeared in each of the last four Euroleague seasons. Altogether he has averaged 4.6 point, 3.2 rebounds and .9 steals over 97 career Euroleague games. He previously played for Pinar Karsiyaka Istanbul of Turkey, Hapoel Jerusalem of Israel, Gravelines, LeHavre and SLUC Nancy of France, Valladolid of Spain and Bremerhaven of Germany before debuting in the Euroleague with Brose Baskets Bamberg in 2011-12.
