Unicaja tabs Nelson for Markovic's role
After losing playmaker Stefan Markovic for three months due to injury, Unicaja Malaga moved quickly to replace his spot with DeMarcus Nelson, who arrives from French club AS Monaco. The deal is for the remainder of the season, pending the physical which is scheduled for Saturday. Nelson (1.93 meters, 30 years old) has posted 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists in French League action this season, and now returns to the Turkish Airlines Euroleague by joining Unicaja before the start of the Top 16. Nelson has three Euroleague campaigns under his belt; he debuted in the 2010-11 season with Cholet Basket, played in 2013-14 for Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade and last season with Panathinaikos Athens. In 38 games in the competition, he has a career average of 8.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists. During his career, Nelson has also played for Golden State and Chicago in the NBA, Bakersfield and Austin in the D-League, Dontesk in Ukraine, KK Zagreb of Croatia and Avellino in Italy.
