Panathinaikos Athens announced Wednesday that head coach Argiris Pedoulakis will remain at the helm for the 2016-17 season. Pedoulakis, 52, took over from Coach Aleksandar Djordjevic following the Turkish Airlines Euroleague playoffs in April and guided the team to the Greek League finals, where it lost to archrival Olympiacos Piraeus. Pedoulakis, who was a star shooting guard for the Greens during his playing days, previously coached the Greens for a season and a half from the summer of 2012, when he took over for Zeljko Obradovic, until March 2014. He brought the club to the brink of the 2013 Final Four and had a 26-22 record in Euroleague games with the club. Pedoulakis also won the 2013 Greek championships and a pair of Greek Cups in his time there. Pedoulakis also coached in the Euroleague with Peristeri Athens of Greece and Unics Kazan of Russia.

Pedoulakis is an experienced Greek coach who has had the top jobs at Makedonikos, Panellinios, Rethimno, PAOK and ΑΕΚ Athens in addition to Peristeri, Panathinaikos and Unics. He guided Makedonikos to the 2005 ULEB Cup final, where they lost to Lietuvos Rytas. Pedoulakis debuted as a player with Peristeri as a teenager in 1977 and spent nine seasons there, during which he was called up to the Greek national team and partook in the 1986 World Championships in Spain. That year he also signed for Panathinaikos and spent six seasons with the Greens. He rejoined Peristeri in 1993 and played there two more seasons before he retired and joined the coaching staff as an assistant.
