Unics bolsters backcourt with Karpukhin
After re-signing the key pieces to the Unics Kazan backcourt from last season, the club added to its lineup by signing Aleksandr Karpukhin for the coming season. Karpukhin (1.91 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Zenit St. Petersburg, where he averaged 3.3 points in 16 Eurocup games last season. The guard averaged the same amount of points in 36 VTB United League appearances. He had one of his best games last season - 12 point on 4-of-6 three-point shooting – in VTB League action in Kazan. After playing with Dynamo Moscow at the youth levels, Karpukhin started his career with Avtodor Saratov and also played for Ryazan, Ural Ekaterinburg, Spartak Vidnoye Moscowskaya Oblast and Ataman Rostov before joining Zenit in 2014. He was a member of the Russian U16, U18 and U20 national teams. He helped Russia win the silver medal at the 2006 U16 European Championships in Jaen, Spain.
