Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul added more depth to its backcourt for the club’s upcoming return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by signing sharpshooter Dairis Bertans to a two-year contract, the club announced Wednesday. Bertans (1.92 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Spanish side Dominion Bilbao Basket, where he played for the last two seasons. He shined in the 2015-16 7DAYS Eurocup, averaging 15.5 points on 48.5% three-point shooting and 90.9% free throw accuracy in 16 games. He brings in eight seasons of EuroCup experience with ASK Riga, BK Ventspils and VEF Riga, all of his native Latvia, as well as with Bilbao. Bertans played in 79 EuroCup games and has a career average of 10.4 points, but now is set to make his EuroLeague debut. "First of all, I am really happy to be a part of Darussafaka Dogus. The club is ambitious and is building a good team this summer," Bertans said. "Obviously, playing for the best coach in Europe, David Blatt, was also very important for me. I can promise we will give our best on the court for all our fans next season."
