Panathinaikos, Charalampopoulos together until 2024
One of the most promising young players in European basketball is set to keep wearing green for a long time, as Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens reached a new agreement with forward Vassilis Charalampopoulos to keep working together for eight more years, until the end of the 2023-24 season, the club announced Monday. Charalampopoulos (2.05 meters, 19 years old) averaged 1.5 points and 2 rebounds in 6 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. He started his career with Egaleo, joining Panathinaikos in 2012 and becoming a full-time member of the Green's first roster in the 2014-15 season. Charalampopoulos helped Panathinaikos win consecutive Greek Cup trophies in each of the last two seasons. He is also a member of the Greek national team and played at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament earlier this summer. Charalampopoulos helped Greece win a gold medal at the 2015 U18 European Championships, averaging 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists in 8 games, and also conquered a bronze medal at the 2013 U16 European Championships. "I am happy that I will continue fighting for Panathinaikos for many years," Charalampopoulos said. "It is an honor for any athlete to wear this jersey."
