Khimki taps Markovic at point guard

Khimki Moscow Region's return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague will come with a new man manning the point guard position after the signing of veteran Stefan Markovic to a two-year deal. Markovic (1.96 meters, 29 years old) is the EuroCup's all-time leader with 491 assists and second all-time in that competition in career steals (155). He is coming off a career-best season with Zenit St. Petersburg, in which he led the EuroCup in assists with 9.1 per game. He also posted 11.9 points on 40.6% three-point shooting plus 3.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in EuroCup action last season. Markovic now returns to the EuroLeague after a year away; he last played in Europe’s premier competition for two seasons with Unicaja Malaga from 2014 to 2016.

A native of Serbia, Markovic started his professional career with Atlas Novi Beograd, before moving to Hemofarm Vrsac, where he played four seasons. He has also played for Benetton Treviso in Italy, in Spain for Valencia Basket and Unicaja, and for Banvit Bandirma in Turkey. Markovic has also been a long-time member of the Serbian national team, with whom he won silver medals at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the World Cup in 2014 and at EuroBasket 2009.
