Fenerbahce re-signs Sloukas, Hersek

After two seasons together that resulted in the club's first Turkish Airlines EuroLeague title and another appearance in the championship game, Fenerbahce Istanbul and guard Kostas Sloukas have agreed to stay together for a few more seasons. Sloukas (1.90 meters, 27 years old) signed a two-year contract with an option for a third season with Fenerbahce on Friday. He comes off his best season yet in which Sloukas averaged 9.2 points and 4.5 assists in 29 games for Fenerbahce, which is the second EuroLeague side he has played for after joining Olympiacos Piraeus as a teenager. Sloukas also played one season on loan at Aris Thessaloniki. He helped Olympiacos reach three EuroLeague title games in four seasons, including winning the titles in 2012 and 2013. In total he has played in seven EuroLeague seasons and is climbing the charts in career assists; his 424 rank 30th all-time. In addition to his Euroleague crowns, Sloukas amassed two Greek League championships, one Greek Cup and the 2013 Intercontinental Cup with the Reds and two Turkish League titles and one Turkish Cup with Fenerbahce. He has also played for the Greek national team at the European championships and World Cup and won two gold and three silver medals for Greece at the junior levels.

Fenerbahce also re-signed forward Baris Hersek (2.07 meters, 29 years old), who has spent the past two seasons with the club, too. Hersek only played in three EuroLeague games last season after appearing in 18 contests the season before. He played more frequently in the Turkish League, where he averaged 1.7 points in 24 games. Hersek, who has represented Turkey at the Basketball World Cup and EuroBasket championships, previously played in the EuroLeague for Anadolu Efes Istanbul and Besiktas as well as Darussafaka, Pinar Karsiyaka Izmir, Banvit and Antlaya, all in Turkey.
