Khimki to bring back team captain Monia for eighth season at club
Khimki Moscow Region announced Friday that it has re-signed veteran forward Sergey Monia for the coming season with an option for the 2018-19 campaign. Monia (2.02 meters, 34 years old) first joined Khimki in 2010 and has been with the club ever since. Last season he averaged 7.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 15 7DAYS EuroCup games. During his time at Khimki, Monia has won the EuroCup twice (2012 and 2015) and captured the VTB United League title in 2011. He has also helped Khimki to the VTB finals on two other occasions, including last season. Monia has also played for CSKA Moscow, Dynamo Moscow and Avtodorozhnic Saratov as well as Portland in the NBA and Fort Worth in the D-League. He was a regular with the Russian national team when it won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2007 and bronze medals at EuroBasket 2011 and the 2012 Olympic Games. Earlier in his career, Monia played in three consecutive EuroLeague Final Fours and won as many Russian League titles with CSKA between 2003 and 2005. He has appeared in 142 career EuroLeague games and 104 EuroCup games.
