Efes adds size with former ANGT MVP Birsen
Anadolu Efes Istanbul made its first move of the offseason by signing forward Metecan Birsen for the next two seasons, the club announced on Tuesday morning. Birsen (2.08 meters, 23 years old) played last season for Sakarya Buyuksehir, where he posted 8.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2 assists in the Turkish League. Birsen grew up with Fenerbahce Dogus Istanbul, where he also made his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut in the 2013-14 campaign, appearing in a total of eight games. The next summer, Birsen joined Eskisehir before spending two seasons in the Turkish second division with Istanbul BB. Birsen had a very successful career in the junior ranks. While playing for U18 Fenerbahce, as a 17-year old, he was the MVP of the 2012 Adidas Next Generation Tournament Finals. He also won four medals with Turkish youth national teams, including golds at the U20 European Championship in 2014 and the U18 European Championship in 2013.
