Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv has made a major splash in the summer market by signing the reigning MVP of the 7DAYS EuroCup, guard Scottie Wilbekin, to a multi-year contract. Wilbekin (1.88 meters, 25 years old) carried Darussafaka Istanbul to the EuroCup title last season in spectacular fashion, leading the competition in average performance index raging (21.3 per game) and in scoring (19.7 ppg.). He also led his team with 4.8 assists and ranked fourth in the league with 1.6 steals per game. Darussafaka had an 18-2 record with Wilbekin in the lineup. For his season-long efforts, Wilbekin was named MVP of the regular season, the full season and the 7DAYS EuroCup Finals. Wilbekin set a finals record with 10 three-pointers in two games, tied one with 28 points in Game 2 and amassed the second-highest scoring total in a finals series, 52 points, despite his team sweeping Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar 2-0.
What's more, Wilbekin brings two seasons' worth of experience and double-digit scoring in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague to Tel Aviv. He debuted with Darussafaka in 2015-16 with 10.3 points and 2.3 assists in 21 minutes per night over 20 games. The next season, he improved to 11.6 points and 3.2 assists in 25 minutes, leading Darussafaka to its first playoffs appearance, where it lost 3-1 to Real Madrid. Last season, though, Wilbekin outdid himself. His 62 three-pointers were one behind the single-season EuroCup record. His index rating total of 384 ranked seventh all-time and his 354 total points ranked eighth. Prior to joining Darussafaka, Wilbekin split his first pro season between Cairns of Australia and AEK Athens after having spent four years at University of Florida, which he helped reach the 2014 NCAA Final Four.
