Efes beats Fenerbahce for Turkish President's Cup
Anadolu Efes Istanbul won the Turkish President’s Cup for 11th time in club history by edging Fenerbahce Istanbul 65-62 on Wednesday night in Ankara. The Turkish President’s Cup is the traditional meeting of the Turkish League champion and the Turkish Cup champion. In a tight affair in that saw the lead vollley back and forth in the first half, Fenerbahce held a 28-30 edge at the break. At the start of the third quarter, however, Dogus Balbay and Adrien Moerman combined to score 13 points and Krunoslav Simon hit a three-pointer to cap a 16-1 run and open a 44-34 margin with 1:30 to go in the quarter. Fenerbahce rallied to within 62-64 with 16 seconds to go in the game and Kostas Sloukas attempted a last-second triple that would have sent the game into overtime, but Efes held on. Moerman and Balbay led the victors with 13 points apiece and Simon added 11 for Efes, which was without Shane Larkin, Brock Motum, Tibor Pleiss and James Anderson. Sloukas scored 24 points and Ahmet Duverioglu chipped in with 10 for Fenerbahce, which played without Jan Vesely, Marko Guduric and Tyler Ennis.
