Le Mans signed one of the best all-around players in France, swingman Pape Sy, to a two-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Sy (2.00 meters, 24 years old) arrives from BCM Gravelines, which he led to the Eurocup Last 16 and first place in the French League regular season last year. He averaged 7.7 points and 3.6 rebounds in seven Eurocup games and 8.8 points and 2.5 boards in 25 French League contests. Sy grew up with fellow French League side STB Le Havre and also spent one season in the United States. In that 2010-11 season, Sy saw limited action with Atlanta in the NBA – three regular season and four playoff games, but also played for Utah in the D-League, where he averaged 8 points and 3.4 rebounds in 23 games.
"The reputation of Le Mans is well established," Say said. "I'm joining a great club, that is used to playing the for titles each year, was a finalist last season and will play the Euroleague Qualifying Rounds. Meeting this challenge is important, attractive and motivating. My telephone conversation with the coach convinced me."
