Asseco Prokom Gdynia further strengthened its frontcourt with the addition of center Rasid Mahalbasic for the coming season. Mahalbasic (2.08 meters, 21 years old) signed a six-year deal with Fenerbahce Ulker of Turkey in 2010, but has spent the majority of the past two seasons on loan to different teams. He spent time last season with Split in Croatia and Zlatorog Lasko in Slovenia. Over the summer Mahalbasic starred for the Austrian national team in their EuroBasket 2012 qualifying campaign by leading the team with 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds over eight games. Though born in Slovenia, Mahalbasic joined Austrian side kelag Worthersee Piraten as a 9-year-old and shined in that league throughout his teenage years. In the 2009-10 season – his last in Austria – Mahalbasic was sixth in the Austrian League in scoring with 18.4 points in 27 games and second in the league with 8.6 rebounds and a 19.6 index. He has also played at loan for Tofas in Turkey.
