The legendary Larry Brown's life-long passion for basketball and his bold move abroad to coach Fiat Turin in the 7DAYS EuroCup at age 78 inspired Monday's launch of "The Learning Master", which opens a new season of The Insider Documentary Series, part of the Euroleague Basketball Originals long-form content platform. The Insider accompanies Coach Brown on his journey and hears first-hand his views on European basketball, his adaptation to it, and his coaching philosophy. The documentary also talks with his current and former colleagues and players about what drives this Hall of Famer, the only basketball coach ever to win both NBA and NCAA titles.
"Belgrade: Cradle of Basketball" given documentary award
"Belgrade: Cradle of Basketball", part of The Insider Documentary Series produced by Euroleague Basketball, received a Medal of Honor award last week in the collective sports category at the prestigious Milano International FICTS Festival.
It was the 36th edition of the festival organized by the International Federation of Sports Cinema and Television (FICTS). The film was directed and produced by Diego Dorado, written and filmed by Xuban Inxausti, and narrated by Vladimir Stankovic, who in the film acts as a guide in the city that hosted the 2018 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final Four.
The Milan festival gathers the best from 16 other festivals on five continents and is all about sports documentaries. "Belgrade: Cradle of Basketball" was submitted to the Zlatibor Festival in Serbia, where it was unveiled last June. FICTS gathered about 160 films were selected this year among the 900 that participated in all the festivals.
"Belgrade: Cradle of Basketball," one of the five films with a basketball theme, caught the jury's attention. It tells the story of Serbian and Yugoslav basketball through interviews with historical figures such as Borislav Stankovic, Dusan Ivkovic, Zeljko Obradovic, Bozidar Maljkovic, Dusko Vujosevic and Vladislav Lucic, among others.
Professor Franko Ascanti, president of FICTS, awarded Vladimir Stankovic a commemorative medal and diploma as the Euroleague Basketball and Zlatibor festival representative.
The Insider EuroLeague Documentary Series exemplifies a commitment to the premium, long-form content on the Euroleague Basketball Originals platform, which was enhanced by the recent debut of The Journey, an eight-month series that takes fans behind the scenes from opening day to this season's championship game with their heroes from five different EuroLeague teams.
