CSKA pulled out a valuable victory in Barcelona on Friday night in an entertaining back-and forth game that saw 22 lead changes in 40 minutes. Neither team managed to pull away for majority of the night, and just the first half of the game featured 18 lead changes and 7 ties. CSKA had several players step up in this closely battled contest, but none bigger than the four-time All-EuroLeague guard Nando De Colo.
If not his best, it was at least De Colo's most clutch performances of this season. Not only for scoring 25 points and making a career-high and a CSKA club-record 7 three-point shots on just 10 attempts, but also for the how and when he delivered those blows.
Of those 7 triples De Colo made on Friday, five gave CSKA new leads, while another one, his fifth, came with Barcelona threatening to pull away and leading 59-50 in the third quarter. De Colo hit it from the left corner to snap an 8-0 Barcelona run, and the same shot sparked a 2-13 CSKA response that he capped himself with a last-second downtown dagger to give CSKA 61-63 lead going into the fourth quarter. Colo's seventh triple, midway through the fourth quarter, put CSKA up 68-70, giving the visitors the lead for good.
It was a stellar performance from the former Alphonso Ford Top Scorer Trophy winner, who ranks ninth on all-time charts with 16.0 points per game while closing in on entering the Top 10 all-time scorers with 2,465 total points. And even though De Colo just once before hit 5 three-pointers in a EuroLeague game, this was a three-point performance most EuroLeague fans saw coming from De Colo. And few will be surprised if we see something similar from him again, soon.
