Olympiacos Piraeus must try to survive the tightest Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs race ever without its leader, Vassilis Spanoulis, who will miss the rest of the season with a torn peroneal tendon in his ankle. Spanoulis, 36 years old, suffered the injury in his team's Round 26 road loss to AX Armani Exchange Olimpia Milan and has not played since. Besides his iconic status as a three-time EuroLeague champion and Final Four MVP, Spanoulis this season ranks fourth in the competition in assists, with 5.1 per game, and is scoring 10.2 points on average. His injury, coupled with that of fellow guard Janis Strelnieks, has left Olympiacos without its two most experienced backcourt players. The club announced that Spanoulis's season has ended after he missed its home loss to Zalgiris Kaunas in Round 29 on Friday night.
