Efes extends team captain Balbay

Anadolu Efes Istanbul and team captain Dogus Balbay will remain together for at least two more seasons and the sides agreed to terms on a contract extension through the end of the 2020-21 season, the club announced Monday. Balbay (1.85 meters, 30 years old) is in his eighth season with the club and became a first-time father last week. He has played 157 career EuroLeague games - all with Efes, during which he has accumulated 274 points and 159 assists. Balbay helped Efes reach the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Championship Game this season, the club's best result in the top continental competition. He has also lifted the Turkish Cup with the club in 2015 and 2018. An accomplished on-the-ball defensive point guard, Balbay started his career with Fenerbahce Istanbul and also played for the University of Texas before joining Efes in 2011. He has also been a member of the Turkish national team, with which he won a gold medal at the 2013 Mediterranean Games in Mersin, Turkey. Over the past week, Efes's management has re-signed Coach Ergin Ataman, Bryant Dunston, Vasilije Micic and Krunoslav Simon in an effort to keep the core of this season's squad together.
