Lithuanian champion Zalgiris Kaunas announced the signing of forward Nigel Hayes on Wednesday night. The contract is for one season with an option for an additional one. Hayes (2.03 meters, 24 years old) made his European debut last season with Galatasaray Istanbul; he ranked among the top 10 in the 7DAYS EuroCup Regular Season in scoring (15.7 ppg., sixth) and performance index rating (17.8, ninth). Hayes had a 50/40/90 shooting campaign, making 51.8% of his field goals, 43.2% of his three-pointers and 91.7% of his free throws. He also posted 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game. Hayes began his professional career in 2017 when he played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto and Sacramento as well as for Westchester in the G-League. Before that Hayes spent four years at the University of Wisconsin as a double-digit scorer.
"I am excited about joining such a famous organization as Zalgiris," Hayes said in a release. "I'm glad to be able to play on such a prestigious European basketball team trained by Sarunas Jasikevicius. I have only heard the best feedback about the staff, supporters and Kaunas."
