LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne has assured some veteran consistency for its Turkish Airlines EuroLeague return by signing swingman David Lighty to a new three-year contract, the club announced Saturday. Lighty (1.98 meters, 31 years old) has spent four of the last five seasons with ASVEL, helping the club become French League champion in both 2015-16 and 2018-19. Last season, he put up 8.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals in 18 7DAYS EuroCup games, as ASVEL came within one shot of making the semifinals. Lighty brings EuroLeague experience to ASVEL, too. He debuted in Europe's premier basketball competition with Bennet Cantu of Italy in 2011-12 and two seasons later put up 11.3 points per game in the EuroLeague for JSF Nanterre of France. He has also played for Cremona, Trento and Sassari in Italy in his nine-year pro career to date.
"I did not imagine the future without David and I'm really happy to have managed to reach an agreement!" ASVEL president Tony Parker said. "With him, we have the assurance of not being wrong, because we know that we can always count on him. He is irreproachable – on the court, in the locker room, and within the team. This is the player that all presidents dream of having!"
