CSKA Moscow signed veteran center Kosta Koufos, who will make his Turkish Airlines EuroLeague debut with the champs after 11 seasons in the NBA. Koufos (2.13 meters, 30 years old) spent the past four seasons with Sacramento; he averaged 3.7 points and 4.2 rebounds over 42 games last season. He has also played for Utah, Denver, Minnesota and Memphis in his career and averaged 5.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 686 regular-season appearances. Koufos helped his teams reach the playoffs on six occasions. Born in the United States to a family of Greek immigrants, Koufos has represented Greece at the international level and helped the Greek squad win a bronze medal at EuroBasket 2009. CSKA and Koufos signed a one-year contract with an option for one more.
"I definitely look forward to playing for one of the leading teams in Europe," Koufos said. "While playing in the NBA, I was following European basketball and I know that the team had a lot of success in recent years. I am also excited to play for Coach Dimitris and together with my future teammates. I am excited to have a chance to improve. I am sure that it is going to be a good experience."
"Kostas is bringing here 11 years of NBA experience, experience at the highest level of basketball," Coach Dimitris Itoudis said. "He has said to me many times that he still has a big amount of will and energy in his tank. We are awaiting him in Moscow, looking forward to seeing him on the court and to achieving many goals together at CSKA."
