All-Decade Nominee: Felipe Reyes

Nov 12, 2019 by Euroleague.net Print

Prototype power forward Felipe Reyes is among the most important players in Real Madrid's illustrious history. With Real since 2004, Reyes became the sturdy foundation upon which the club rebuilt its legend this decade with two new continental titles. He was a constant presence as Real emerged from a decade without Final Four appearances to make seven of the last nine.

In four of those Final Fours – 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018 – Real reached the championship game. Reyes and his teammates had to suffer through losing a 17-point lead in their first final and falling in overtime in the second. But on their home court in 2015, when Reyes was voted to the All-EuroLeague First Team, Real was indomitable, winning its first title in 20 years. Reyes lifted that historic trophy as the team captain, and did so again three years later, when Real emerged from an injury-plagued 2017-18 season to dethrone defending champion Fenerbahce Istanbul in the title game. Reyes finished that season, at age 38, with the EuroLeague's sixth-best performance index rating per minute.
