Baskonia, Perasovic part ways

KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz reached an agreement with Velimir Perasovic to terminate his contract as head coach, the club announced on Friday. Perasovic, 54, led Baskonia to a 6-9 record in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague this season, and had a 7-6 record in the Spanish League. Friday's announcement ended Perasovic's third stint on Baskonia's bench. This has been Perasovic's 11th season as a EuroLeague head coach: five with Baskonia, three with Anadolu Efes Istanbul, two with Cibona Zagreb and one with Valencia Basket. He guided Baskonia to Final Fours in 2006 and 2016. Perasovic also won the 7DAYS EuroCup title with Valencia in 2014, claimed consecutive Croatian League crowns in 2009 and 2010, and lifted domestic cup trophies in Spain, Turkey and Croatia. Baskonia said that assistant coach Josep Maria Berrocal would run the team in the coming days.

In the announcement, Baskonia quoted Perasovic as thanking the club "for the opportunity given to me to work in a place that will always be very special for me. Of course, the fans have supported us always, when things have gone well, but also when we needed them most. I understand that the team needs a change and I wish them luck from my heart that things go well."
