Turkey: Darussafaka, Galatasaray win in quarters

Darussafaka Tekfen Istanbul and Galatasaray Doga Sigorta Istanbul became the first two teams to reach the Turkish Cup semifinals with marquee wins on Tuesday. Darussafaka finished its game on a 13-3 tear to eliminate Anadolu Efes Istanbul with an 81-71 victory at Volkswagen Arena. Gary Browne starred with 22 points, Johnathan Hamilton added 16 points and 7 rebounds and Jarrod Jones posted 13 points plus 11 boards to lead the winners, who will play in the semifinals on Friday. After Efes erased a double-digit deficit to tie the game at 68-68 on Tolga Gecim free throws with 2:50 to go, Darussafaka got a three-pointer and a three-point play from Browne in an 8-0 spurt that put the game away. It had been a topsy-turvy game till that point with Darussafaka outscoring Efes by 10 points in both the first and third quarters and Efes winning the second quarter by 11. It appeared the game was set for a tense finish when Efes rallied to tie it three times in the fourth quarter, but Darussafaka had the final say. Krunoslav Simon led Efes with 22 points, Rodrigue Beaubois added 14 and Tibor Pleiss and Chris Singleton netted 10 points apiece.

Galatasaray trounced Tofas Bursa 98-81 behind the dominance of Zach Auguste, who erupted for 32 points on 13-for-16 shooting plus 11 rebounds. The big man posted a performance index rating of 38. Aaron Harrison added 17 points, Alex Poythress tallied 15 points and 9 rebounds, Can Korkmaz scored 14, Goksenin Koksal 10 and Tai Webster dished 10 assists for the victors. Galatasaray led 55-47 at halftime before cracking down on defense and holding Tofas to 17 points in each of the final two quarters. Muhsin Yasar paced Tofas with 19 points, Tarik Phillip scored 18 and Berkan Durmaz had 11 in defeat.

Lithuanian Cup: Rytas captures semifinals spot

Rytas Vilnius and Neptunas Klaipeda advanced to the semifinals of the King Mindaugas Cup with wins on their home floors. Rytas outlasted Juventus 103-94 on the strength of Tu Holloway’s 28 points. After falling behind 45-49 at halftime, Rytas took control with a 36-15 third quarter, during which the lead peaked at 81-63. Juventus closed the gap to 6 in the final minute, but Rytas held on with ease. Arnas Butkevicius scored 19 for the winners, Pako Cruz paired 18 points with 7 assists and Mindaugas Girdziunas added 10 points for Rytas. Julias Jucikas scored 16 to lead Juventus. Earlier, Andre Williamson's free throw with 7 seconds remaining lifted Neptunas to a 73-72 victory over Alytaus Sintek–Dzukija at Svyturio Arena in Klaipeda. Osvaldas Olisevicius led the way for Neptunas with 24 points. Chauncey Collins scored 36 for Alytaus in defeat.
