LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne has announced the termination of its contract with head coach Zvezdan Mitrovic, who coached the club in its return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague this season. Mitrovic, 50, joined ASVEL in the summer of 2018 and led the team to the French League title last season. He also led ASVEL to a 13-6 record in the 7DAYS EuroCup, finishing the season in the quarterfinals. The team returned to the EuroLeague last fall after a decade away and promptly won five of its first eight games, but only five of the subsequent 20 until play was suspended after Round 28 due to the global COVIC-19 pandemic. ASVEL was tied for first place in the French League with a 21-4 record when that competition suspended its season for the same reason. Mitrovic had previously coached Buducnost in his native Montenegro, Budivelnyk, Khimik and Azovmash in Ukraine, and Monaco in the French League, among other clubs. He has also been both assistant and head coach of the Montenegrin national team.
