Real Madrid lands swingman Abalde

Real Madrid signed swingman Alberto Abalde to a five-year deal, through the 2024-25 season, the club announced on Tuesday. Abalde (2.02 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Valencia Basket, where he averaged 7.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. He helped Valencia win the Spanish SuperCup in 2017 and the 7DAYS EuroCup in 2019. Abalde started his career with Joventut Badalona, playing for its junior teams and its vinculated squad Prat Joventut until he joined its first team in 2015-16. He was named the 2012-13 Euroleague Basketball Adidas Next Generation Tournament Finals MVP in London, England, after leading Joventut to the title. Abalde has also been a member of the Spanish national team. He helped Spain win respective silver medals at the 2014 and 2015 U20 European Championships.
