ALBA Berlin added versatility and talent to its roster by inking swingman Simone Fontecchio to a three-year deal, the club announced Tuesday. Fontecchio (2.03 meters, 24 years old) arrives from Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia, where he averaged 11.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 21 Italian League games last season. He started his career with Segafredo Virtus Bologna and also played for AX Armani Exchange Milan and Vanoli Cremona before joining Reggio Emilia. He helped Milan win an Italian Cup title in 2017. Fonteccio has also been a member of the Italian national team.
"I longed to play for ALBA in the EuroLeague and of course followed the (German) cup win and the (German) championship. I really liked the game system and I think that my style of play goes well with it," Fontecchio said after the agreement. "I am very happy about the chance to play for ALBA and in the EuroLeague and I will give 100 percent every day to improve. It is the first time that I will live outside of Italy and I am really looking forward to (living in) the city of Berlin."
