Valencia re-signs veteran swingman San Emeterio

After five successful seasons together, Valencia Basket and veteran swingman Fernando San Emeterio have reached agreement on a contract for one more year with an option for the 2021-22 campaign, the club announced Monday. San Emeterio (1.99 meters, 35 years old) averaged 7.3 points on 46.8% three-point shooting in 24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games last season. He helped Valencia lift the 7DAYS EuroCup trophy in 2019. It was San Emeterio's first EuroCup crown, after losing finals with Akasvayu Girona in 2008 and Valencia in 2017. He also lifted the Spanish League trophy with Valencia in 2017. San Emeterio is set to start his 10th EuroLeague season. He played seven of them with Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz and is entering his third EuroLeague campaign with Valencia. He has accumulated 1,759 points (9.4 ppg.) and 589 rebounds (3.1 rpg.) in 187 EuroLeague career games.

San Emeterio was chosen to the 2010-11 All-EuroLeague First Team and earned EuroLeague MVP of the Round honors five times. He was also chosen for the All-EuroCup Second Team in the 2016-17 season. San Emeterio has played his entire career for Spanish teams: Valladolid was his first professional club, followed by Girona, Baskonia and Valencia. He has won two Spanish League titles – with Baskonia in 2010, hitting the series-winning shot, and with Valencia in 2017. San Emeterio also lifted the Spanish Copa del Rey trophy with Baskonia in 2009 and won the FIBA Eurocup title with Girona in 2007. He has won four EuroBasket medals with the Spanish national team – gold in 2011 and 2015, bronze in 2013 and 2017 – as well as a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games.
