FC Bayern Munich reinforced its backcourt on Monday with the signing of point guard Wade Baldwin IV for the 2020-21 season. Baldwin (1.93 meters, 24 years old) joins the German powerhouse from Olympiacos Piraeus, where he made his European debut last season. The playmaker averaged 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 24 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games. Bayern saw first hand what Baldwin could do as he tallied his season-high of 19 points in Munich in Round 9. He also collected 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists against Bayern in Round 20 at home - two of the five games in which he scored in double figures. Baldwin made his professional debut with Memphis in the NBA in 2016-17 and played the following two seasons with Portland while also splitting time with D-League teams in Iowa, Texas and Toronto over those three seasons.
"Wade will give us enormous toughness, energy and physicality on both sides of the court," Bayern sports director Daniele Baiesi said. "We looked at him intensively a year ago and would have liked to bring him in. Fortunately, it worked out now and he also showed a great desire to come to us. We look forward to having him."
