Maccabi re-signs forward Caloiaro

Israeli powerhouse Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv has made sure to keep another important member of its roster, announcing on Monday a contract extension that will keep forward Angelo Caloiaro with the club for two more seasons, with an option for a third. Caloiaro (2.03 meters, 31 years old) has made 48 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague appearances over the last two seasons for Maccabi, starting in 37 of them and averaging 6.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steals. Last season, Maccabi held fifth place in the standings when the EuroLeague was suspended and eventually cancelled due to the global COVD-19 pandemic. The team regrouped to win the Israeli League title this summer, with Caloiaro playing a key role. The veteran forward had previously played with Telekom Baskets Bonn and Mitteldeutscher BC in Germany, Rilski in Bulgaria, Obradoiro in Spain, as well as Banvit Bandirma and Buyukcekmece in Turkey.

"One of the tasks we set for ourselves was to keep Angelo on the team," Maccabi coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos said. "He is an impressive player with a high work ethic that is very suitable for Maccabi's system. From the moment I arrived at the club, I moved him from position 'four' to 'three', and he gave a lot to the whole team. It was important for me and the management that we extend his contract."

"I am happy to return to my Maccabi family," Caloiaro said. "We have a goal to continue from where we left off last season."
