Picking players in the EuroLeague FabFive Challenge gets tougher and tougher every week. And no week is tougher that the second games in a two-round week. There is so much to take into consideration: minutes played in Round 27, travel, rest days – since some teams will play on two days of rest and others on three, etc. All of that is before we evaluate matchups and injuries.
The perfect situation would be players from a team that played at home on Tuesday, playing again at home on Friday against another team that played on Wednesday. And finding players who have been productive lately and didn't play too many minutes earlier in the week.
That's a good starting point, but in reality, you need to know when to rely on the numbers, when to believe in a player's form and when do you trust your gut. The best FabFive Challenge players do a little bit of each.
With that in mind, here are some FabFive suggestions for Round 28:
Range 1 (0 to 3.99) – The Friday contest between Khimki Moscow Region and ALBA Berlin has all the signs of being blessed with many points and although small forward Sergey Karasev has not been much of a scorer in his two seasons with Khimki, he averaged 16.8 points in the EuroCup as recently as 2018-19. His upside is tempting in Range 1.
Range 2 (4 to 7.99) – New-signing Kosta Koufos started in his Olympiacos Piraeus debut which relegated Octavius Ellis to the bench. Ellis thrived against the opponents' second unit to score 12 points in 18 minutes and with Hassan Martin and Georgios Printezis sidelined, he should get plenty of minutes to shine again on Friday.
Range 3 (8 to 11.99) – Although he has been somewhat inconsistent, when he is on, few can stop Guerschon Yabusele. The LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne forward will face Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul for the first time on Friday and his team is one of those what has an extra day's rest over their opponents.
Range 4 (12 to 14.99) – Another Khimki player? Jordan Mickey has averaged 20 points, while getting off at least 14 shots in each of his last four games. There is risk here, though, because Mickey played 37:30 on Tuesday. But if this game is close, Mickey will get all the minutes he can handle.
Range 5 (15.0 or higher) – There are a lot of stars to believe in, but with FC Barcelona's Nikola Mirotic coming off a superb game and now playing at home in front of his old friend and new teammate Pau Gasol at home, maybe believe in him a little bit more.
Good luck in Round 28!
