Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul reached an agreement with guard Ismet Akpinar to work together for the next season and the option for another one, the club announced Friday. Akpinar (1.93 meters, 26 years old) arrives from Bahcesehir Koleji Istanbul, where he averaged 10.8 points and 2.1 assists in 9 7DAYS EuroCup games this season. He joined Bahcesehir from FC Bayern Munich, where he averaged 3.0 points and 1.5 assists in 3 German end-of-season tournament games in 2020. He started the 2019-10 campaign with Besiktas Sompo Japan Istanbul, averaging 10.9 points on 94.8% free throw shooting and 2.3 assists in 20 Turkish League games before joining Bayern. Akpinar, whose brother Mutlu also plays professional basketball, started his career with Hamburg Tigers and played for other German teams such as SC Rist Wedel, ALBA Berlin and ratiopharm Ulm before joining Besiktas in 2019. He helped ALBA win a German Cup title in 2016, and has been a member of the German national team. He played the 2014-15 EuroLeague with ALBA, averaging 1.6 points in 5 games.
