Club info
If there is a club that is unique in the ULEB Cup this season, that has to be back-to-back Dutch League champion EiffelTowers Den Bosch. The city of Den Bosch had its own team, EBBC, a legendary Dutch club that made its first division debut in 1972. EBBC became Nashua Den Bosch in its glory days, winning nine Dutch League titles between 1979 and 1988, as well as making it to the Euroleague group stage five times between 1980 and 1987 with players like Jos Kuipers, Kees Akerboom Sr., Raymond Bottse or Henk Pieterse. Den Bosch reached its biggest European success in 1979, losing the Cup Winners' Cup final against Cantu, 83-73. The team won its 12th Dutch League title in 1997, but failed to compete for a 13th trophy in years to come. On the other hand, EiffelTowers had its team based in Nijmegen since 2000, when it made it to the Dutch League with Eiffel as its main sponsor. EiffelTowers Nijmegen already won the Ricoh Cup in 2000, arrived to the Dutch League finals in 2002 and lifted both the Dutch League and Cup of Netherlands trophies in 2003. The team made its ULEB Cup debut in 2004, beating teams like Le Mans or Makedonikos in the process. EiffelTowers Nijmegen returned to the ULEB Cup in 2005, but it all changed that very same summer. Eiffel decided to continue its basketball activities in Den Bosch, even when Nijmegen kept its own team in the Dutch League. With a new coach in Randy Wiel and players like Leon Rodgers, Gert Kullamae, Erik Nelson or Joaquim Gomes, EiffelTowers lifted the Dutch League trophy in 2006 and added another title last season by sweeping Matrixx Magixx Nijmegen in the best-of-seven finals. EiffelTowers also returned to the ULEB Cup last season, registering a historical win against Real Madrid and earning a reputation of a fun-to-watch team due to its attractive, fast-paced basketball. EiffelTowers hopes to compete against the best ULEB Cup teams and keep adding titles in its second golden age.
