Club info
Coming off a season in which it was battling for domestic titles, SLUC Nancy returns to the Eurocup for the second year in a row. Last season Nancy got past the Eurocup regular season for the first time in eight years before its journey was stopped in the Last 32. The team was also ousted in the French League semifinals by eventual champion Limoges CSP and lost the semifinal of the Leaders Cup in a thriller to Le Mans. Now Nancy sets its sights once again on the Eurocup. Founded in 1967, Stade Lorraine Universite Club (SLUC) Nancy Basket did not find real success until the early 1990s, when in a short period of time it climbed the ladder and reached the first division in 1995. Two years later Nancy reached the French Cup final and debuted in European competitions with a Korac Cup appearance. The club became a regular in the French League playoffs and won its first title - the Korac Cup – in 2002, by beating Lokomotiv Rostov in a two-game final series behind point guard Stevin Smith and big man Fabien Dubos. Nancy thrashed Gravelines to take the 2005 Leaders Cup, but came up short in the three straight French League finals appearances that followed. In 2006-07, Nancy made its ULEB Cup debut and reached the eighthfinals, before the 2007-08 season brought new reasons to celebrate as the club won its first French League championship by routing Roanne 84-53 in the title game. That victory catapulted Nancy into the 2008-09 Euroleague, where it came within one win of making it to the Top 16. The club’s second French title arrived in 2011 when it beat Cholet in the finals, but its second Euroleague campaign also ended after the regular season. Nancy battled hard to avoid relegation in 2013 and bounced back a year later by making it to the French League semifinals and the French Cup finals. Now, Nancy aims to contend for more trophies as it tries to continue its rise back towards Europe’s elite.
