U18 Brose Bamberg opened the ADIDAS NEXT GENERATION TOURNAMENT Munich with an 83-72 victory over U18 Real Betis Energia Plus Seville. Brose gave up a 10-point lead but survived 22 turnovers in starting Group A with a win. Kay Bruhnke nailed 4 three-pointers and paced Brose with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Joshua Obiesie collected 14 points and 5 assists and Finn Fleute chipped in 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Andrzej Pluta led Betis in scoring with 21 points while Anthony Da Silva added 16 points in the defeat. Betis made just 10 of 23 free throws (43 percent).

Henri Drell started the game hot, making 2 of Brose’s 4 three-pointers in opening a 16-9 lead. Pluta answered with 5 points as Betis closed the gap to 18-17, but a three-pointer from Moritz Plescher made it 21-17 after 10 minutes. Brose pushed the lead to 10 points, 32-22, and it was 35-27 after a Bruhnke trey. But Da Silva tallied 8 straight points before Pluta nailed a long ball to complete an 0-9 run for a 39-40 Betis advantage at intermission.

There were 7 lead changes and 2 ties in the first half of the third quarter with Bruhnke and Fleute both completing three-point plays for Brose and a Obiesie triple making it 52-50. Bruhnke added back-to-back three-pointers and an alley-oop dunk as the German side pushed the advantage to 67-57 after 30 minutes. Brose increased the gap to 71-60 before Betis trimmed it to 7 points. But back-to-back scores from Fleute made it 78-65 with 4 minutes left in the game. And Betis would not get closer than 9 points the rest of the way.
