Alba Berlin had a thrilling return to the Eurocup in Group A by edging Banca Tercas Teramo 75-73 in front of more than 10,000 fans at the O2 World in the German capital on Tuesday night. Sekulic kept pacing Alba with free throws while McElroy joined the three-point shootout in a 12-0 run that Jenkins capped with a layup off a steal, good for a 37-28 lead. Diener stepped up with a basket and soon added a triple to give Teramo some hope at 37-33. A free throw by Wright fixed the halftime score at 38-33.

Amoroso buried his second triple immediately after the break and even when Jenkins sank his trademark jumper, Stanescu scored inside to keep Teramo as close as 40-38. Sekulic and Diener traded layups but Teramo kept missing easy shots and committing turnovers now. Meanwhile, McElroy downed a three-pointer while Hamann fed Chubb for an easy basket and added a layup that boosted Alba's lead to 49-40. Amoroso rescued Teramo with back-to-back triples while Hoover tied the game, 49-49, with another shot from downtown. A three-point play by Hamann and three-pointers by Wright and Diener fixed the score at 57-57 after 30 minutes. Derrick Byars found his first points on a put-back layup by Hoover bettered that with a triple to give Teramo a 59-60 edge. Chubb shined with a three-point play, as Teramo went scoreless for 2 minutes and called a much-needed timeout. Young stepped up with a put-back basket, igniting a 0-7 run that Poeta capped with a triple for a 62-67 Teramo deficit. Wright and Sekulic stepped up for Alba while free throws by Kenan Barjamovic provided another lead change, 68-67. Amoroso shined with a layup that Hamann bettered with a key triple. Free throws by Poeta tied it at 71-71 with a minute left. McElroy sank a jumper but foul shots by Diener made Alba call timeout at 73-73. Jenkins tried to score in penetration, Dojcin and McElroy missed around the basket but Dojcin beat the buzzer to win it for Alba.

"Teramo is the second best offensive rebounding team in Italy and throughout the first three quarters suffered from that. This is a team that shoots high percentages and we all saw what happens when you give them second chances. Our defense was not bad, but we did not complete it to the end, so they too often found shots from outside. In our last offense we basically opened the court for Julius Jenkins to create a shot for himself or for someone else. If he missed, we were ready to play overtime. He took a good shot, but I think he was very quick and took his shot too early, but this ended up well, because it allowed us after his miss to get the two tips and finally the last offensive rebound and the score by Dragan Dojcin, which won the game. It's very important that we stay calm in these situations and find our way."

"We played a great game against a big team. Unfortunately we once again lost a game with a buzzer beater. Watching the tapes of Alba we recognized that they are a very organized team, especially good on the pick-and-roll and that they are very good when they can pass the ball to their big men. We wanted to erase these situations from their game. I am very proud of my players, who once again played another very intense game after the one we played on Saturday in the Italian League against Milan. At the moment we are very sad, because it was not the first time this season, that we lost at the buzzer after playing a great game. This is the time to keep fighting and working hard and we hope that in the game in Teramo we will be luckier than Alba."

"This was a very important win for us against Teramo, which is a very, very good offensive team. Their offense stretched our defense to the limits. They scored so many huge three-point shots and had the game under control in the second half. Fortunately we were able to hit back by improving our rebounding. In the end I only looked for the ball and the stroke."
DIENER, DRAKE
BancaTercas Teramo
"We normally shoot the ball very well, but tonight in Berlin, I think we played pretty well. When we were up by 5 with two minutes left, I thought 'we have to finish the game,' but we did not do that and in the end we were unlucky, because the ball bounced in the wrong direction. I think Berlin was probably picked to be the best team in our group and therefore we can take confidence from this close loss. We only have to learn to finish our games."
