Dinamo Banco di Sardegna Sassari used 12 triples to pull away from Belgacom Spirou Charleroi in 94-78 victory on Wednesday. Win improves Dinamo Sassari to 3-2, in a share of the third place in Group B, while Spirou remains winless midway through the regular season. The hosts pulled away late in the third quarter with triples from Travis Diener, and baskets from Omar Thomas, and never looked back. Drake Diener netted 23 points on 6 of 10 three-point shooting, while Caleb Green had 19 points plus 9 rebounds. Thomas scored 15, and Travis Diener contributed with 14 points, shooting triples 4-for- 5, and dished 7 assists. Demond Mallet scored 18 for the visitors, Darryl Watkins had 14, and Devin Green 13 points in defeat.
As teams traded leads early on, Drake Diener scored 13 of the firsts 21 points for Sassari, and Omar Thomas scored 6 points in an 11-3 spurt at the end of the quarter for 29-23 after 10 minutes. But Spirou countered in the second quarter, with Demond Mallet scoring a basket-plus-foul and a triple, and Mohamed Abukar hitting a jumper and a three-pointer for 40-41. Linton Johnsons and Caleb Green helped the hosts go into halftime up 49-47, but Spirou had four different scorers at the start of the second half, tying it at 54-54 midway through the third. However, Travis Diener scored twice from downtown, and Thomas made a jumper and couple of a layups, capping a run that put the hosts up 71-60. In the early stages of the fourth quarter, Drake Diener hit two triples to keep the margin in double figures, and after Travis Diener hit his fourth from downtown, and Drake Diener nailed his sixth, it extended the lead to 89-72, sealing the deal.
