Budivelnik registered its first win in Last 16 Group J by downing BG Goettingen 68-56 at home in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine on Tuesday. Both teams now tie at 1-1 in this group. Lamayne Wilson paced the winners with 19 points on 5-of-6 three-pointers. Zach Morley added 14 and 9 rebounds while Andriy Agafonov had 13 points for Budivelnik. John Little led Goettingen with 14 points. Trenton Meacham added 13 while Jason Boone had 11 for the guests. Goettingen led for the best part of the first quarter but a jumper by Morley gave Budivelnik its first lead, 19-17, after 10 minutes. Agafonov shined in the second quarter to lead Budivelnik to a 34-26 margin at halftime. Wilson had all points in an 8-0 run that broke the game open, 42-28, soon after the break. Budivelnik boosted its margin to 58-35 early in the fourth quarter and only allowed Goettingen to rally when it was already too late.
Back-to-back baskets by Boone and Meacham helped Goettingen to get an early 0-4 lead. Wilson answered from downtown and Andy Betts scored down low but Boone and Louis Dale allowed the guests to stay ahead, 5-9. Mike Scott and Michailas Anisimovas traded baskets but another triple by Wilson made it a one-point game, 10-11. Little sank free throws but Denys Lukashov joined the three-point shootout to tie it at 13-13. Dwayne Anderson dunked it and Adam Waleskowski added a jumper but Morley followed a layup with a mid-range shot to give Budivelnik its first lead, 19-17, after 10 minutes. Anderson scored off a steal but a layup-plus-foul by Agafonov restored a 22-19 edge early in the second quarter. Meacham sank a jumper but a red hot Agafonov bettered that with a triple for a 25-21 score. The game turned into a physical battle and both teams struggled to score for a while, but a layup by Anisimovas boosted his team's lead to 27-22. Antoine Jordan shined with a put-back basket but Dmytro Zabirchenko struck from downtown and Agafonov added free throws to boost Budivelnik's lead to 32-24. A jumper by Morley and free throws by Anderson fixed the halftime score at 34-26.
Boone tried to change things with a layup immediately after the break but Budivelnik kept rolling and found a new go-to guy. Wilson sank a jumper and added back-to-back three-pointers to force Goettingen to stop the game at 42-28, after an 8-0 run. Little followed a three-point play with a jumper but a dunk by Morley and another triple by an unstoppable Morley broke the game open, 47-33. Boone kept pacing Goettingen with a jumper but free throws by Agafonov and Morley kept the hosts way ahead, 49-35. Morley followed a jumper with a layup-plus-foul and Lukashov boosted the hosts' lead to 56-35 after 30 minutes. A jumper by Leonid Stefanyshyn made it a 23-point game, 58-35, early in the fourth quarter. The outcome was clear already and both teams had started to fight for points differential, a critical issue in all Last 16 groups. Meacham and Little took over with consecutive baskets, making Budivelnik call timeout at 58-39. Boone got some help from Little and Michael Meeks to get Goettingen much closer, 60-47, with under 6 minutes left. A three-pointer by Meacham got the guests within single digits, 62-54, but it was already too little, too late for Goettingen.
