Pascolo leads Trento to valuable road win

Dolomiti Energia Trento registered its fifth win in Group A and took another major step forwards to reach the Last 32 in its Eurocup debut season by downing EWE Baskets Oldenburg 80-93 on the road on Wednesday. Trento improved to 5-2 while Oldenburg dropped to 3-4. Davide Pascolo led the winners with 17 points. Filippo Baldi Rossi added 15 and 11 rebounds in less than 20 minutes while Julian Wright had 14 points for Trento. Brian QVale led Oldenburg with 22 points on 10-of-13 two-point shots. Chris Kramer added 13, Scott Machado got 11 while Vaughn Duggins had 10 for the hosts. Pascolo had 7 points in a 0-9 run which allowed Trento to get an early 9-18 lead. Oldenburg got within 19-20 after 10 minutes on a buzzer-beating by Klemen Prepelic and regained the lead, 25-22, right after that. Trento went back to its go-to guys, as Pascolo and Wright allowed the guests to get a seven-point margin, 35-42, at the break. Jamarr Sanders and Dominique Sutton led a 2-15 run which broke the game open, 37-57. Nothing changed from that moment, as Trento kept a 50-68 margin after 30 minutes and kept a double-digit margin for the best part of the fourth quarter to cruise to a well-deserved road win.

Kramer got Oldenburg foing with a driving basket which Wright bettered with a mid-range jumper and a triple for a 2-5 Trento lead. QVale and Trent Lockett traded layups and a three-pointer by Kramer tied it at 7-7. Toto Forray banked in a jump hook which Nemanja Aleksandrov erased with his first basket. Trento found a go-to guy in Pascolo, who had 7 points in a 0-9 run which Sanders capped with a coast-to-coast layup to make Oldenburg call timeout at 9-18. Kramer struck from downtown, Sutton scored around the basket and Duggins kept the hosts within 16-20. A buzzer-beating triple by Prepelic brought Oldenburg within 19-20 after 10 minutes. Prepelic collected a steal and fed Philipp Schwethelm for a layup which gave Oldenburg a 21-20 lead. Baldo Rossi and Dennis Kramer traded baskets and Robin Smeulders boosted the hosts' margin to 25-22. Baldi Rossi and Diego Flaccadori hit free throws in a 0-7 run which Wright capped with a put-back basket for a 25-30 Trento lead. Machado and Qvale tried to change things for Oldenburg but Pascolo and Wright kept scoring fluently to keep Trento way ahead, 33-42. Another basket by Qvale fixed the halftime score at 35-42.

Forray struck from downtown soon after that break and Sanders added 5 quick points to boost the guests' lead to 35-51. Duggins tried to change things with a basket - but those were Oldenburg's only 2 points in 5 minutes. Meanwhile, Sutton and Sanders gave Trento a 20-point lead, 37-57, after a 2-15 run. Duggins and Qvale tried to change things for Oldenburg but the hosts only managed to trade baskets now. Qvale insisted with a three-point play which Dominic Lockhart followed with free throws for a 46-61 deficit. Duggins brought the hosts even closer, 50-63, but Pascolo hit free throws and Lockett struck from downtown for a 50-68 Trento margin after 30 minutes. Machado scored again early in the fourth quarter but Baldi Rossi did better with a three-point play and soon added back-to-back baskets that sealed the outcome, 56-75, with 7 minutes remaining. Alexandrov and Kramer combined for all points in a 7-0 run which brought Oldenburg a bit closer, 63-77. Three-pointers by Sutton and Johan Lofberg allowed Trento to seal a very important road win in style, 68-85, with over 3 minutes left.

"We had a game plan but it didn´t work. After the great win against Berlin, the players were a little bit tired. So they were too late in many situations. For every win you have to give everything and play with a full heart. That’s what we missed today. Maybe it´s a wake-up call for our next games. "
BUSCAGLIA, MAURIZIO
Dolomiti Energia Trento
"It is a good win for us and important to reach the second round. After the two losses before, I expected a reaction. We knew what Oldenburg was able to do, so we were prepared. It was our game plan to capture defensive rebounds and run fast breaks. We had good moments with the three-point shot, too. It gave us much confidence. "
