Stella Azzurra beat CSKA Moscow, 74-87, Tuesday in the Torneo Citta di Roma, for their second win of the day and a 2-1 record. After beating Montepaschi Siena earlier, Stella Azzurra was able to clinch the second spot in Group B, on top of third seeded Siena, and will play Lietuvos Rytas of Group A on Wednesday. CSKA Moscow is the only team to finish without a win at 0-3, and will play the fourth seed of Group A in the last day of the tournament. Stella Azzurra got the victory thanks to 21 points by Mirco Turel and 20 by Matteo Fallucca, while Bruno Duranti and Mario Delle Cave added 10 apiece. CSKA was led by Viacheslav Fedorchenko, who had 23 points, and Alexandr Gudumak, who added 22, while Pavel Sizov recorded 11 to go with 9 rebounds. Stella Azzurra jumped to a 36-43 first half lead thanks to good defensive awareness, bagging 3 steals and limiting CSKA to a lone assist in the half, and they built up their lead in the third quarter, as Turel tallied 10 points in the period. CSKA battled in the trenches and won the rebounding battle, 44-36, but was not able to convert from beyond the arc, missing all but one of 13 attempts, while the Italian side hit 7 triples and totaled 20 steals in the game. CSKA got as close as 42-46 in the third quarter after a Gudumal layup, but a 9-18 run by Stella Azzurra to close the period set up a 20-21 final quarter that left CSKA short of the comeback.
