Jermaine Anderson - Buducnost Voli (photo Benoit Bouchet-monshainaut.be)Buducost Voli withstood a furious fourth-quarter rally to beat Krka Novo Mesto on the road 64-69 for its first win in Last 16 Group K. Buducnost will face Banvit BK next week in a battle to stay close to – or join – undefeated group leader Spartak St. Petersburg. Jermaine Anderson and Nikola Ivanovic led the visitors with 11 points apiece, while Milan Milosevic added 10 with 7 rebounds. Bojan Dubljevic netted 9 points with 3 steals. Zoran Dragic knocked down 14 points and Afik Nissm added 12 to lead Krka. Buducnost ran out in front early and held a comfortable lead throughout, at one point going up 39-57 in the third quarter. However Krka rallied to within 5 with two minutes to go then then finally running out of steam.

Nissim buried a triple to open the game, then Buducnost answered with 9 straight as Jermaine Anderson contributed 5 points with a layup and a triple, Alexsa Popovic added another triple and Dublevic scored a layup for a 3-9 lead. The visitors pushed the lead to 3-14, helped by another triple by Popovic. Krka got points from the foul line but the visitors stayed hot, opening an 8-20 lead behind Dublevic, Ivanovic and Milan Milosevic. Krka fought back with 6 straight, led by Nissim, who knocked down another triple, but then Milosevic answered in kind, setting the score at 14-23. Jure Lalic’s free throws ending scoring for the quarter as Krka trimmed the lead to 16-23. The teams exchanged points in the paint to open the second quarter, then Lalic dunked to bring Krka into striking distance, 20-26. After Milosevic’s free throws, Nissim hit a two-pointer from outside, pushing the score to 22-28. Buducnost took off on a 2-6 run, led by Marko Popovic’s three-pointer, as the margin widened to double digits again, 24-34. Krka worked to get back into it with 4 points down low on baskets by Smiljan Pavic and Urs Lucic, cutting the deficit to 28-35. The scoring stayed in the paint for both teams as Pavic hit for Krka, but the visitors got a basket each from Marko Popovic and Milosevic, pushing the Buducnost lead at halftime to 30-40.

The teams exchanged points to open the half, then a dunk by Jure Balazic nibbled the deficit down to 36-44. But Buducnost responded with its power down low to go on a 2-6 run, as Bojan Krstovic scored twice to take a more comfortable 38-50 lead. After Dubljevic drained a three-pointer, Buducnost resumed its inside scoring, led by Ivanovic and Krstovic, pushing the lead to 39-57. The last 4 points of the quarter belonged to Krka, slicing the difference to 43-57 at the end of 30 minutes. After the hosts opened the fourth quarter with layups by Ben Hansbrough and Dragic, Anderson answered from downtown, setting the score at 49-64. Another Krka surge on 6 straight points by Dragic was answered once again by a three-pointer, this time by Cedomir Vitkovac, but the lead slipped to 55-67. With two minutes to go, the hosts continued rallying as Balazic nailed a triple, then Edo Muric and Dragic each added layups to slice the lead down to 62-67. The comeback finally stalled out as the teams swapped two-pointers in the final minute and Buducnost held on to claim the win 64-69.

Head Coaches

SEKULIC, ALEKSANDER
KRKA Novo Mesto
"The game was very tough for both teams. Before the game I stressed the importance of offensive rebounds and that we shouldn’t lose too many balls if we wanted to win. We needed a lot of time to adapt to their aggressive play. The second half was better; my players showed a willingness to come back, but that was not enough."
RADONJIC, DEJAN
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
"We managed to control the game from the beginning and got an advantage that we were able to retain till the end. I’m very satisfied with my players as that was a very important win for my team."

Players

DRAGIC, ZORAN
KRKA Novo Mesto
"You all know the situation in our team. We tried to fight as much as we could, but we had too many turnovers in the first half. We wanted to come back, but in the end Buducnost deserved to win."
VITKOVAC, CEDOMIR
Buducnost VOLI Podgorica
"We knew that Krka is excellent team and because of that we prepared very well for the game. We managed to do everything that we planned before the game."
